Sonoma Botanical Gardens and Redwood Empire Bonsai Society joint bonsai exhibition

Dear Nor Cal Bonsai Community Clubs,

I am pleased to announce a special Sonoma Botanical Gardens and Redwood Empire Bonsai Society joint bonsai exhibition from January 5 to March 22, 2024, at the Sonoma Botanical Gardens, Glenn Ellen, CA.

Attached you will find promotional information on the SBG and REBS exhibition.

Below is a short version of the event. Please disseminate the information in your monthly club newsletters and/or meetings.

Living Sculptures: The Art & Science of Bonsai at Sonoma Botanical Garden

This January to March, experience a world of serene beauty and intricate craftsmanship as Sonoma Botanical Garden partners with Redwood Empire Bonsai Society to present Living Sculptures: The Art and Science of Bonsai. More than 15 magnificent bonsai will be on view, meticulously nurtured and shaped by local artisans. Take in a fusion of modern and classic forms, from graceful uprights to dramatic windswept styles – each a testament to the patience, dedication and creativity involved in the contemplative art form. Then stroll the Garden’s paths to see some of the full-sized species showcased in the exhibit. Winter is also the perfect time to catch the magic of the Garden’s Magnolias in bloom!

Show Tree Highlight

UPCOMING PROGRAMS

Tree Improvement Program

Thursday, February 1, 2024, 7:30pm
Midori Bonsai Club

This meeting will be presented by our own Carl Morimoto and Drew Tucker. They will be up front handing the various questions you have regarding the trees you bring in and present to the club. Bring in a tree that you have questions and we’ll discuss it as a group. Everyone who brings in a tree will be given a number that designates your turn to bring up your tree for discussion.

OPEN WORKSHOP

Thursday February 15, 2024, 7:30PM
Midori Bonsai Club

This is an open workshop. Bring in your trees and we’ll help you with any questions you may have. There will be a board meeting at 6:30pm, an hour before our regular meeting time.

Beginner’s Workshop

Thursday March 21, April 18, May 16, 2024, 7:30PM
Midori Bonsai Club

Juan Cruz will begin our 2024 Beginner’s Workshop. This is an excellent way to get started in bonsai for completely new beginners through intermediate artists who want additional material and training. A 10 dollar fee is payable to John Thompson for materials. Sign up by the first Thursday of March to be included in this program. 🌳
